for all photographers to read...The Nigerian 'Funds Forwarding' Scam Changes The Event Over the past few months PPA has contacted members warning them not to act on emails sent regarding Nigerian cheque cashing scams. It has come to our attention con artists are no longer asking for pricing on weddings. In the latest twist to the old scam, the con artist is interested in school photography. Much like the original plot, the person will be sending a cheque in excess of the funds needed for the photo assignment. Upon receipt of the cheque the photographer should have the cheque cashed and forward the remaining funds, excluding the photographer's fees. The photographer will receive notice of 'insufficient funds' after the funds have been forwarded. If you are contacted via email please contact authorities by forwarding the emails to: uce@ftc.gov Additional information regarding this scam can be viewed at: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/alerts/nigeralrt.htm Article courtesy of: 'Professional Photographers of America' Article located at: http://www.ppa.com/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=403 |
