Canon IXUS launches world’s slimmest camera to feature a huge 10x Optical Zoom

Canon Australia today announced the new leading model in its stylish IXUS compact camera range, the IXUS 1000 HS. Delivering spectacular images and a gorgeous slim design, the IXUS 1000 HS is the first in this range to incorporate stunning Full High Definition (HD) movies as well as a powerful 10x Optical Zoom.

The IXUS 1000 HS is the world’s slimmest camera (22.3mm wide) to feature a 10x Optical Zoom, living up to the IXUS reputation of incorporating innovative photographic technologies into stylish, slim designs. The new IXUS 1000 HS offers users a camera that allows them to get extremely close to their subject, capturing every detail, while still being compact enough to slip easily into their pocket.

Stunning Full HD movies as well as stills

A first for the IXUS range, the IXUS 1000 HS includes Full HD movies, allowing users to capture spontaneous and unforgettable moments in high quality video. To ensure the user never misses a moment, the IXUS 1000 HS features an easily accessible ‘movie button’ which makes switching between still and video shooting quick and simple.

Optical Zoom during shooting allows users to zoom while recording video to get up close to their subject while maintaining superior image and sound quality.  The IXUS 1000 HS also features Intelligent Auto in movie mode, which allows the camera to automatically detect 1 of 28 scenes and optimise settings in order to take beautiful movies in any situation.

The IXUS 1000 HS features a Super Slow Motion movie function that allows users to record video at a very high frame rate, possessing the appearance of slow motion when played back at regular speed.

In addition, video content is easily downloaded from the camera via USB connection and can be easily played back on your HDTV via HDMI output connector.

Great low-light images with new high-sensitivity system

The IXUS 1000 HS features Canon’s new high-sensitivity system, known as Canon’s HS SYSTEM, incorporating a CMOS sensor with Canon’s DiG!C 4 Image Processor.

The HS SYSTEM enhances image quality in low-light situations and helps reduce noise at high ISO speeds, making the IXUS 1000 HS the perfect compact camera for low-light situations, whether that be enjoying a sunset or dinner with friends in a dimly lit restaurant. The HS SYSTEM also makes it easy to capture flawless images by reducing camera shake and subject blur, resulting in high quality shots every time.

Perfect images with ease

The IXUS 1000 HS incorporates Canon’s TruCapture technology, making it easy for users to get the shot they want. TruCapture combines three Canon proprietary technologies – Optical Image Stabilizer for clear, sharp shots; a DiG!C 4 Image Processor for true-to-life colours; and Intelligent Auto that makes taking photos easy.

Not only does the IXUS 1000 HS give you point-and-shoot simplicity but it also provides the option to extend into creative modes and take your photography to the next level. The IXUS 1000 HS features two exciting new scene modes – Handheld Night Scene and Best Image Selection.

Handheld Night Scene allows users to take night shots without using a tripod by taking several images in succession and using the camera’s DiG!C 4 Image Processor to combine the photos and reduce noise from high ISO speed.

When using Best Image Selection mode the camera automatically takes five continuous photos and quickly selects the best image, making it easy for everyone to capture a great picture. The best shot is determined by whether your subjects are smiling, have their eyes open and are in focus.
