| Olympus Expands Pen Micro Four Thirds Lineup |
Olympus Imaging Corporation (President: Masaharu Okubo) is pleased to announce the expansion of its PEN Micro Four Thirds System lens lineup with two exciting new zoom lenses that offer uncompromising optical performance in unprecedented compact sizes.Due to launch in the first half of 2010, the super wide-angle zoom lens and ultra zoom wide-angle-to-telephoto lens with a 10.7x zoom ratio will maximise the design advantages of the new Micro Four Thirds System standard. Local pricing and availability are yet to be announced. The new ultra wide-angle zoom lens (35mm format equivalent 18-36mm F4.0-5.6) boasts a physical length of approximately 50mm which is significantly more compact than the Olympus ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 9-18mm F4.0-5.6 from the Olympus SLR E-System. The new high-magnification ultra zoom lens (35mm equivalent 28-300mm F4.0-5.6) is equally compact boasting an unprecedented lens barrel diameter of approximately 65mm. With a zoom range that covers all the most commonly used focal lengths - both wide angle and telephoto - this new lens will be ideal for the photographer seeking a one-lens solution for travel and general photography. When used with Olympus PEN cameras the new lenses will utilise the built-in image stabilisation system on the camera bodies to minimise the effects of camera shake at all focal lengths. ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements will be used in the design of both lenses to suppress colour aberration that can degrade image quality, particularly at wide-angle focal lengths. The Micro Four Thirds System (MFT) lens standard meets the telecentric requirements of modern dedicated digital design where light rays must strike the imaging element almost head-on for optimum lens performance. The new MFT standard ensures that system lenses are much more compact than comparable Four Thirds standard lenses due to the reduction of the outer diameter of the lens mount by a significant 6mm, and the halving of the distance from the lens mount to the focal plane (the flange back distance). |

About Olympus
In Greek mythology, Mt.Olympus is the home of the twelve supreme gods and goddesses. Olympus
was named after this mountain to reflect its strong aspiration to create high quality, world
famous products.
"Olympus" has been used as a trademark since the time of Takachiho Seisakusho, the predecessor
of Olympus Corporation.
In Japanese mythology, it is said that eight million gods and goddesses live in Takamagahara,
the peak of Mt.Takachiho. The name "Olympus" was selected as the trademark because Mt.Olympus,
like Mt.Takachiho, was the home of gods and goddesses. This trademark is also imbued with the
aspiration of Olympus to illuminate the world with its optical devices, just like Takamagahara
brought light to the world.
Takachiho Seisakusho was renamed Takachiho Optical Co., Ltd. in 1942 when optical products
became the mainstay of the company. In 1947, the name was changed again to Olympus Optical
Co., Ltd. in an attempt to enhance its corporate image.
And in 2003, the company made a fresh start as Olympus Corporation, to show its willingness
to establish a dynamic corporate brand by unifying the corporate name and the well-known
brand.
In recent years, Olympus Corporation has focused on "Opto-Digital Technology" as its core
competence, technological strengths that competitors cannot easily imitate, to maximize
corporate value and to become one of the top optical instrument manufactures.
