* Among interchangeable lens type digital cameras available as of June 30, 2011. Focusing time between in finite and 1 meter, measured at the 35mm (70mm at 35mm camera equivalent) of an M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 II R lens mounted on the OLYMPUS PEN E-P3 camera. According to Olympus in-house test conditions.
Further building upon the existing PEN range, the OLYMPUS PEN E-P3 is a high performance compact system camera based on the Micro Four Thirds System standard. As the flagship camera of the PEN series of new generation system cameras, the E-P3 is aimed at camera enthusiasts looking for a camera which combines traditional style and functionality along with advanced imaging capabilities and high responsiveness. Like previous models in the PEN series, the E-P3 maintains key SLR advantages such as high performance and high image quality and its remarkably compact design has been made possible by the elimination of the quick-return mirror and the reflex prism.
The E-P3 auto-focuses faster than any interchangeable lens camera on the market and utilises the powerful new 'FAST' AF auto-focus system. FAST AF combines MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) lens technology, double-speed detection capability of the new Live MOS sensor, a new focusing algorithm and a dedicated focusing processor within the TruePic VI engine. The new AF system sports a 35ne AF pattern which covers nearly twice the screen area of previous PEN cameras enabling enhanced AF detection. Each autofocus zone is also smaller for more precise point focus and enhanced AF tracking capability.
The new 12.3-megapixel High Speed Live MOS Sensor provides 1080i Full HD movie capabilities and features enhanced noise reduction during video recording and Live View through pixel binning. Further advantages of the Live MOS Sensor include improved dynamic range, a high data speed of 120 fps, faster reaction time and a light-sensitivity of ISO 12800. saturation colours including emerald green (e.g., clear \uc1\u8216Xblue' sea), red-magenta
Challenging, high-tones (e.g., red flowers) and yellow tones (e.g., nature subjects and sunset skies) are more accurately reproduced with clearer tonal depth and definition thanks to the new generation TruePic VI image
Olympus' Real Colour Technology. Thisprocessing engine which incorporates the latest version of Real Colour Technology enables reproduction of pictures with enhanced and vibrant colours which are even more true to life.
A new multi-motion digital image-stabilisation algorithm enables exceptional handheld video capture which is remarkably shake-free. Highly-stabilised movie recording is now possible without the use of costly steadicam-type add-on accessories, even when both the user and video subject are in motion. Fast operation and ease-of-use have always been the hallmarks of the PEN series and the E-P3 is no exception. In addition to its two quick-input Main and Sub dials, the E-P3 is equipped with a 3.0-inch, 610,000-dot OLED display whose excellent colour reproduction and touch-screen panel deliver the superior display and intuitive operability needed for creative image shooting and playback. Razor sharp text and graphics support graphical menus which have high clarity and are easy to navigate.
Recreating the timeless style of the classic Olympus PEN series, the E-P3's advanced performance is housed in an elegant, retro-design chassis with a durable metal exterior that exudes quality, features a new user-changeable grip system, providing reliability, and performance. The ergonomic customisation with various sized grips.

In Greek mythology, Mt.Olympus is the home of the twelve supreme gods and goddesses. Olympus
was named after this mountain to reflect its strong aspiration to create high quality, world
famous products.
"Olympus" has been used as a trademark since the time of Takachiho Seisakusho, the predecessor
of Olympus Corporation.
In Japanese mythology, it is said that eight million gods and goddesses live in Takamagahara,
the peak of Mt.Takachiho. The name "Olympus" was selected as the trademark because Mt.Olympus,
like Mt.Takachiho, was the home of gods and goddesses. This trademark is also imbued with the
aspiration of Olympus to illuminate the world with its optical devices, just like Takamagahara
brought light to the world.
Takachiho Seisakusho was renamed Takachiho Optical Co., Ltd. in 1942 when optical products
became the mainstay of the company. In 1947, the name was changed again to Olympus Optical
Co., Ltd. in an attempt to enhance its corporate image.
And in 2003, the company made a fresh start as Olympus Corporation, to show its willingness
to establish a dynamic corporate brand by unifying the corporate name and the well-known
brand.
In recent years, Olympus Corporation has focused on "Opto-Digital Technology" as its core
competence, technological strengths that competitors cannot easily imitate, to maximize
corporate value and to become one of the top optical instrument manufactures.
