 Introducing advanced optical expertise in two new compact, palm-size models, Olympus Imaging Australia has launched the SP-800UZ and SP-600UZ to expand its SP range in Australia.
Equipped with high-magnification zoom lenses that cover remarkably wide shooting ranges, both the SP-600UZ and SP-800UZ offer high-powered super-telephoto capabilities that can capture large, up-close images of even the most distant subjects. Boasting focal lengths ranging from 28mm wide-angle to 420mm and 840mm telephoto respectively, the new SP-600UZ and SP-800UZ create high-impact pictures by capturing details that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
The SP-800UZ is the smallest compact digital camera in its class and the first in the world to incorporate a 30x optical zoom. Its impressive zoom capabilities are supported by a 14 megapixel CCD, which combined with the 16:9 aspect ratio format, 3” LCD screen and built in Li-Ion battery create high quality images in a widescreen format. Brilliant, high definition images can be captured effortlessly to complement the camera’s HD movie capability.
The super-telephoto 15x optical zoom on the SP-600UZ can also create high impact zoom images that are assured by Olympus' advanced Dual Shakeproof CCD-shift image stabilisation function and high-sensitivity settings. Working to prevent picture blur due to camera shake and subject motion commonly associated with telephoto or super-telephoto shooting, the latest additions to the SP range offer an easy-to-use "all-in-one" camera solution that makes it possible anyone to enjoy the pleasure of advanced photography.
Combined with HD movie capability (MPEG-4 AVC / H.264), the SP-600UZ and SP-800UZ offer extended HDTV (1280 x 720 pixels) movie recording thanks to advanced MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 movie compression format.[3] Compatible with the SD memory card, brilliant HD movies featuring natural, high-definition images can be recorded any time at the click of a button.
Both models retain the ‘background defocusing’ mode that was first brought to market in 2009. A technique usually available only with SLR cameras, background defocusing makes the main subject stand out - offering a sophisticated new way for compact camera users to create more expressive, dynamic photographs.
[ib] software
Olympus has developed a powerful new software solution called [ib] to seamlessly connect images (pictures and movies) and people to provide innovative photo surfing capabilities that will turn your camera into a mobile photo album. Using Olympus’ [ib] solution you can retouch and perfect images, as well as organise and create your own personal collections and categorise by person, event, location, date or theme with ease. The software cleverly classifies the pictures according to the recording date automatically during upload to your PC and has the capability to recognise up to 16 faces as subjects to classify accordingly.
Photo surfing
With the [ib] software and 2GB and 1GB built in memory of the SP-800UZ and SP-600UZ
respectively, the new photo surfing feature allows you to download your favourite pictures from your PC back to your camera and search them quickly by date, person or location creating your very own portable photo album. By recording location information for a classified event or by person or location[4], you can also easily find the pictures you want to print or upload to your favourite social media site or share with friends and family wherever you are on your travels
The SP-800UZ and SP-600UZ are scheduled for release in Australia in March 2010. The SP-800UZ will be priced at RRP$699 while the SP-600UZ will be at RRP$399.
