• Shockproof to 1.5 metres, waterproof to a depth of 3 metres, snowproof to -10°C
• Face Detect & Shadow Adjust Technology, TruePic III image processing
• Bright, casual, and stylish new colours

Olympus Imaging Australia has launched the new Tough Lite 850SW - a casually styled addition to the Olympus Tough series of ruggedly constructed, shockproof1, waterproof2, and snowproof digital compact cameras. Boasting an 8-megapixel 3 sensor, the Tough Lite 850SW comes in premium silver, piano black or cassis pink and will be available in Australia from March 2008 for AU$399RRP.

The Tough Lite 850SW is the second-generation model in the Tough series, giving busy families the confidence to
share a stylish camera with children without worry.

Main Features:
• Shockproof to 1.5 metres, waterproof to 3 metres, and snowproof to temperatures as low as -10°C
• Advanced Face Detect & Shadow Adjust technology and high-performance image processor
• Compact and stylish body design available in silver, black and pink

The Tough Lite 850SW inherits the rugged characteristics of the Tough series. Shockproof to 1.5 metres, Waterproof to a depth of 3 metres and Snowproof to -10°C, it is an ideal camera to keep up with the kids at the beach, around the pool, as well as for family camping trips, hiking, skiing and other outdoor situations in which users may encounter mud, sand, impact, or temperature extremes.

Face-Detect and Shadow Adjustment Technology work together to detect subjects' faces and automatically adjusts focus and exposure to ensure that both the foreground subject and background scenery are exposed effectively. Together with the Tough Lite 850SW's 8-megapixel CCD and exclusive Olympus TruePic III image processor, this camera ensures the highest possible image quality in virtually any situation.

Shockproof, Waterproof, and Snowproof operation guaranteed to -10°C
The Tough Lite 850SW packs rugged Tough series performance in a compact and stylish body. Capable of surviving 1.5 metre drop-impact tests, it is ideally suited to outdoor use. It is also waterproof to a depth of three metres to enable supreme confidence in a variety of outdoor scenarios, particularly around the children. The camera is guaranteed to operate at temperatures as low as -10°C and thanks to this cold-weather shooting capability, the Tough Lite 850SW allows photographers to capture the moment while out skiing, snowboarding or mountain climbing.

Face Detect & Shadow Adjust Technology and high-performance TruePic III image
processor

The Tough Lite 850SW also features proprietary Face Detect & Shadow Adjust Technology. Unlike face-detection systems that set focus and exposure only for the face, Olympus Face Detect & Shadow Adjust Technology balances the exposure for both faces and backgrounds independently of one another. In backlit situations where the subjects face may be underexposed, conventional face-detection systems tend to overcompensate, and overexpose the background, causing loss of image detail. But with Olympus Face Detect & Shadow Adjust Technology, exposure is adjusted to ensure that both people in the foreground and elements in the background are properly exposed.

An exclusive Olympus TruePic III image processor maximises the performance potential of the Tough Lite 850SW's high-resolution lens and 8-megapixel CCD by suppressing noise, ensuring smoother edge reproduction, and accurately rendering even the palest colours.

About Olympus

In Greek mythology, Mt.Olympus is the home of the twelve supreme gods and goddesses. Olympus was named after this mountain to reflect its strong aspiration to create high quality, world famous products.

"Olympus" has been used as a trademark since the time of Takachiho Seisakusho, the predecessor of Olympus Corporation.

In Japanese mythology, it is said that eight million gods and goddesses live in Takamagahara, the peak of Mt.Takachiho. The name "Olympus" was selected as the trademark because Mt.Olympus, like Mt.Takachiho, was the home of gods and goddesses. This trademark is also imbued with the aspiration of Olympus to illuminate the world with its optical devices, just like Takamagahara brought light to the world.

Takachiho Seisakusho was renamed Takachiho Optical Co., Ltd. in 1942 when optical products became the mainstay of the company. In 1947, the name was changed again to Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. in an attempt to enhance its corporate image.

And in 2003, the company made a fresh start as Olympus Corporation, to show its willingness to establish a dynamic corporate brand by unifying the corporate name and the well-known brand.

In recent years, Olympus Corporation has focused on "Opto-Digital Technology" as its core competence, technological strengths that competitors cannot easily imitate, to maximize corporate value and to become one of the top optical instrument manufactures.
