Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G7 Digital Camera
panasonic20150602aa.jpgPanasonic’s 4K photography revolution: Introducing the new LUMIX DMC-G7. Never miss a perfect moment with new 4K Photo and 4K Video.

Panasonic has unveiled the new LUMIX DMC-G7, which offers stunning 4K video, and exciting new 4K Photo modes that mean you never miss capturing that once in a lifetime moment.

Doug Campbell, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic, said: “The technology we are introducing today makes missing the moment a thing of the past. We’ve all experienced pressing the shutter button too late by just a fraction of a second. Now with 4K Pre-burst, even though you’ve missed the shot, the G7 hasn’t.”

4K Pre-burst uses buffering, so the G7 can capture one second before and after the shutter is pressed, at 30 frames per second. The user can then select from 60 frames to find that decisive moment.

The LUMIX DMC-G7 puts 4K within the reach of everyone. This camera is the complete package with the latest smooth high-resolution 4K video, fast autofocus and the compact convenience of mirrorless technology, all in an intuitive design. And this amazing functionality is affordable for the consumer at $999rrp for a single lens kit.

The camera also introduces Panasonic’s new ‘Starlight AF’, which makes achieving focus in low light a breeze. Whether it is astrophotography or pre-dawn long exposure shots, users can have confidence that the shot is in perfect focus before they release the shutter. This saves time and the painstaking trial and error of using manual focus.

This ground-breaking technology is backed up by the full gamut of powerful G Series functionality, including a 16-megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor and quad-core Venus Engine image processor which drives a lightning-quick 0.07 sec autofocus to capture truly stunning photographs. The Contrast AF System features DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology for superior speed and
accuracy.

Adding to the shooting precision, the camera offers a high-resolution OLED Live View Finder and a touch LCD.

Perfect for the amateur photographer wanting to produce professional-quality images, the LUMIX DMC-G7 is designed for ease of use without compromising on performance. All your favourite controls are at your fingertips without having to delve through menus. The DMC-G7 has front and rear programmable dials and a dedicated drive dial that gives quick access to 4K Photo. For users who love to customise their camera, the DMC-G7 has 11 programmable function buttons.

Key Features

Outstanding 4K video

Panasonic’s LUMIX G cameras are renowned for their high quality video capability. The DMC-GH4 set the benchmark for 4K video quality and the DMC-G7 continues the legacy. This new camera records stunningly smooth, high-resolution 4K video (3840 x 2160, 30p, 100Mbps) at four times the resolution of full-HD. The result is crystal-clear footage that captures the most intricate details, such as individual blades of grass or stars in the night sky.

Amazing 4K Photo

4K Photo mode optimises settings such as shutter speed for sharp still images at 30 frames per second. Capturing high resolution still images at 3328x2496 (4:3), allows you to produce stunning prints at up to A3 size.

There are three ways to take advantage of 4K Photo mode:

•    4K Pre-burst mode. In this mode the camera captures 30 frames per second before and after the shutter is released, a total of 60 shots. The DMC-G7 is ready before you are to capture unrepeatable split-second moments such as lightning or your child’s first steps.
•    4K Burst mode. This operates like a traditional burst mode, but will capture 30 frames per second as long as the shutter is held down, for up to 29 minutes and 30 seconds [1].This is great for predictable action sequences that last for more than a few seconds – such as sports where you capture the player, the goal and the team reaction.
•    4K Burst start/stop. Press the shutter once to start burst shooting and press it again to stop. This is useful when you are going to be waiting for longer and don’t know exactly when the action is going to happen, for example wildlife shots when you are expecting a bird to return to its nest.

After capturing 4K footage, simply scroll through 30 frames per second via the ‘carousel’ on the touch screen. It’s quick and intuitive to select that perfect image. Now, no matter how fleeting the moment, you’ll never miss a shot.

Crisp, clear images full of colour

The LUMIX DMC-G7 features a 16-megapixel Micro Four Thirds Digital Live MOS sensor that has been developed to achieve high-resolution images and video, minimising distortion and graininess, even in low light conditions, for example a dimly lit restaurant or bar. The sensor is accompanied by a new and improved quad-core Venus Engine image processor that accurately analyses, evaluates and reproduces every colour in every frame, resulting in crisp, clear and bright photos and videos that are true to the original.

Fast and accurate

Panasonic’s LUMIX G range is synonymous with fast and accurate Auto Focus (AF) functionality, meaning you can concentrate on framing your shot safe in the knowledge that your LUMIX camera

can do the rest. The LUMIX DMC-G7 takes even less time to set focus than its predecessors, analysing the scene and adjusting settings in the blink of an eye.

Panasonic’s DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology [2] shortens the time to acquire focus, allowing the camera to achieve high speed autofocus of around 0.07 sec [3]. For even faster and more accurate AF tracking, a new algorithm allows the camera to lock onto the subject even more securely, by recognising not only the colour, but also the size and motion vector of the target.

These continued AF enhancements have allowed Panasonic to introduce a brand-new autofocusing capability –‘Starlight AF’. This allows users to capture subjects like stars in the sky at night using Auto Focus. Shots like these have been previously very difficult for the amateur shooter to achieve without the need for manual focus and a great deal of trial and error.

Built for any adventure

Panasonic’s LUMIX G interchangeable lens cameras incorporate the latest technology in a considerably more compact and mobile design, compared to their larger DSLR counterparts. At just 410g (body, battery and SD card), the LUMIX DMC-G7 is the ideal travel companion.

With a high-performance 2,360K-dot OLED Live View Finder and a 3-inch 1040K-dot free-angle touch screen LCD display, the LUMIX DMC-G7 is ready to accommodate any shooting style.

Make your smart device part of the experience

The DMC-G7 integrates Panasonic’s latest Wi-Fi connectivity for easy control as well as fast and simple image sharing. With a press of a button you can connect the camera to a smartphone or tablet, allowing you to upload images and video to social media within seconds or email them directly to friends and family. You can also use your mobile devices as a remote control for the DMC-G7, changing settings such as focus, aperture, shutter speed and ISO, before triggering the shutter release. The camera also offers the new remote control ‘Jump Snap’ feature for fun group shots - the acceleration sensor on a smartphone detects the highest point of a jump, and releases the camera shutter via Wi-Fi and the Panasonic Image App.
