Ricoh Showing GXR ‘M Lens Mount Unit’ At PMA

ricoh20110624.jpgRicoh shows Australia its first glimpse of the GXR Lens Mount Unit

Ricoh will show Australians how to transform their GXR interchangeable compact camera system into a Leica, with the GXR’s soon to be released ‘M Lens Mount Unit’ making its Australian debut at the PMA Imaging & Entertainment Expo, Sydney on Friday June 24 2011.

Setting it apart from other interchangeable lens cameras, Ricoh’s GXR utilises an innovative slide-in mount system to attach ‘units’ which integrate lens, image sensor and image processing engine. The key advantage of this world-first design is a more finely tuned relationship between lens and sensor, resulting in the image quality one would expect from a DSLR. In 2010, the GXR was named ‘Innovative Imaging Product of the Year’ by Australia’s Camera Magazine.

Further expanding the versatility of the GXR system, the new lens mount is compatible with a range of M mount lenses including those produced by Leica. An engineering marvel, it has been designed to make the best use of the optical characteristics of the lenses mounted and will feature a 23.6 mm × 15.7 mm (APS-C size; total pixels: approx. 12.90 million) CMOS sensor and a newly developed focal plane shutter. It is planned for a spring 2011 release with local pricing to be announced closer to release date.

There are currently four existing camera units available for the GXR.
-    GR LENS A12 50mm F2.5 MACRO - announced November 2009
-    RICOH LENS S10 24-72mm F2.5-4.4 VC - announced November 2009
-    RICOH LENS P10 28-300 mm F3.5-5.6 VC - announced May 2010
-    GR LENS A12 28mm F2.5 - announced September 2010

To fully utilise this system's unique ability to accommodate interchangeable units other than camera units, Ricoh has been investigating possibilities for the development of a variety of devices. A number of these design mock-ups will be on display at the PMA Imaging & Entertainment Expo to be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre from June 24 to 26, Stand 535.1.

Visitors to the Ricoh stand will also see:
-    the recently announced waterproof and shockproof PX, Ricoh’s latest compact camera aimed at more adventurous photographers
-    the latest release from Ricoh’s award-winning CX Series, the CX5 featuring its hybrid auto-focus system
-    Ricoh’s flagship fixed lens compact, the GR Digital III

Ricoh will be giving show visitors a chance to win a new PX camera. See Ricoh’s Facebook page for further details www.facebook.com/RicohCamerasAus .
