Sony NEX-5N Digital Camera

Professional quality at your fingertips with 16.1-megapixel resolution and Full HD 50p video

Sony has expanded its award winning range of interchangeable lens cameras with the launch of the new E-Mount NEX-5N (Alpha NEX-5N). Building upon the initial success of the E-Mount series, the latest NEX-5N offers the superb responsiveness, image quality and creativity expected of a DSLR camera – all in a slim-line, compact body.

The NEX-5N, styled in tough, light magnesium alloy and measuring in at only 23.3mm at its slimmest point, features enhanced still image and HD video quality, powerful creative features and intuitive interface all culminating in a product that is a step ahead of its rivals.

The NEX-5N boasts a release time lag of approximately 0.02 seconds and coupled with an improved AF algorithm, ensures the NEX-5N is the fastest of any interchangeable lens digital camera on the market.

The camera is Sony’s first E-mount interchangeable lens camera that features an intuitive Photo Creativity Touch interface.  Background Defocus, Exposure, Picture Effect and other adjustments can be previewed, applied and combined in an instant all via the LCD touch panel and control dial.  The Programme, Aperture/Shutter Priority and all-Manual modes (PASM) allow users full control of exposure.  Stereo audio quality has also been improved with revised circuitry that lowers wind noise levels, a crucial advantage especially when shooting quiet scenes.

sony20110824ab.jpgThe NEX-5N also offers users a suite of powerful creative features including the Picture Effect function - first introduced on the NEX-5N’s predecessor - that allows users to create sophisticated artistic effects without the need of a PC or post-processing.  The NEX-5N boasts 11 modes and 15 effects which include new HDR Painting, Soft Focus, Miniature, Rich-Tone Monochrome and soft High-Key.  Other interesting imaging functions include 3D Sweep Panorama, Soft Skin, Auto HDR, Handheld Twilight and Anti Motion Blur Modes.

The NEX-5N’s 7.5 cm (3.0") Xtra Fine LCD angles up to 80° up or 45º down for easy viewing in any shooting position.  TruBlack technology ensures excellent detail and contrast dramatically reducing on-screen reflections.  Enhanced by the new Photo Creativity Touch interface, the LCD makes composition, shot review and adjustment of camera settings easier and more flexible. And focusing is easier than ever thanks to the touch screen. Simply touch the area you want to be sharp with your finger and the camera will lock focus. It will even track the focus if the subject moves.

The NEX-5N shoots smooth AVCHD Progressive (Ver2.0) Full HD movies with high-quality stereo sound at 50p.  To make sure your subject is always in focus, simply select it by touching it on the screen and the camera will track it even if it’s in motion.  This is a world first for interchangeable lens cameras with an APS-C size sensor.

The   NEX-5N will be available from the Sony Centre, online and camera retailers Australia-wide from October 2011.
