Sony announces a new prototype ACVHD camcorder with interchangeable lens functionality

Sony Australia today announced that it is in stages of developing a new type of AVCHD high definition camcorder. An early prototype has shown that it will incorporate key technologies powering the newly announced interchangeable lens digital camera, the α NEX-5 and α NEX-3.

The prototype camcorder will be equipped with the same Exmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor used in the α NEX-5 and α NEX-3 cameras and will also be compatible with E-mount interchangeable lenses developed for these cameras. A range of A-mount interchangeable lenses from Sony’s existing a DSLR line up will be compatible via a mount adapter.

Combining an innovative design, along with the company’s expertise in digital imaging, Sony is introducing a new generation of camcorders capable of generating a variety of creative expressions in Full High Definition quality.
