Sony Twilight Football Global Event
sony090721.jpgSony has announced its involvement in a global campaign for the company’s digital imaging products – a world first event named Twilight Football.

A series of seven football matches will take place as the hour of twilight moves across the world on 22 September 2009*. These games – including one played in Australia – will provide the backdrops to demonstrate the leading digital imaging technologies Sony offers through its Handycam camcorder, Cyber-shot digital camera and Alpha (Alpha) DSLR ranges.

The picturesque locations where the games will be played are:

-       Venice, Italy
-       Chamonix, France
-       Tintagel Castle, UK
-       Iguazu Falls, Argentina
-       Pinnacles Desert, Australia
-       Spain
-       South Africa

The global campaign has been developed in conjunction with multiple Sony companies across the world, to highlight Sony’s world-class digital imaging technologies, including the Exmor CMOS sensor. This enables Cyber-shot and Handycam products to capture detailed realistic shots in lowlight settings, such as twilight.

In addition, Sony’s Alpha range of high-quality, yet affordable DSLR cameras are perfect for more ambitious amateur photographers looking to capture stunning images from the events, in all conditions.

“Each Twilight Football event takes place in a location chosen to provide a spectacular backdrop for this truly unique activity. The global phenomenon that is football provides the perfect platform to capture some phenomenal surroundings using the very latest Sony digital imaging products,” said Carl Rose, Managing Director, Sony Australia.

“Together with our global counterparts, we want to show the world what can be achieved when shooting images in the most picturesque light that nature has to offer. There is no better way to do this than by using the international language of football. This is an event to show real people the benefits of Sony’s range, giving them the opportunity to capture firsthand some of the most stunning locations in the world.”

“Sony Australia has a strong football association; globally driven by its FIFA partnership and locally through relationships with FFA, the Qantas Socceroos and Hyundai A-League teams. As we increase the profile of football in this country on the road to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, we’re thrilled to be offering the local football community, photographers and videographers alike the chance to be involved in this world-first event.”

Australians to take part in Twilight Football

Sony is celebrating the incredible Twilight Football moments and filming opportunities by giving six local footballers the chance to compete in this landmark activity. An Australian football team will be flown to Tintagel Castle in Cornwall, UK to compete against a team from Latin America. The match will be played amongst the ancient castle ruins with expansive views of the surrounding countryside and sea crashing against the cliffs below.

Similarly, Sony will be sending budding Australian photographers and videographers to the event locations across the world to capture the activity and experience the beauty of lowlight shooting with Sony products.

Twilight Football in Australia

Australia will host teams from the United Kingdom and Italy in a unique match played in the picturesque Western Australia Pinnacles Desert, surrounded by four metre tall limestone pillars stemming from stark yellow quartz sand to form an eerie moonscape scene.

Capturing Twilight Football

Attendees at the Twilight Football events will be able to try out Sony’s range of products that feature Exmor technology. These models excel in capturing exceptional detail in lowlight, with two separate shooting modes that reduce image noise when you’re shooting in challenging conditions.

With selected Cyber-shot models, Anti Motion Blur mode will come into its own at the Twilight Football events, superimposing six frames to produce crisp, composite images with less subject blur. The aptly-named Handheld Twilight mode also grabs a high-speed burst of six frames, combining them to create a single optimised image with dramatically reduced noise levels. Sony’s Alpha range packs powerful specifications into an entry-level DSLR, perfect for people looking to take their photography passion to the next level.

Making the most of the stunning Twilight Football locations, the Cyber-shot Sweep Panorama function gives users a new way of capturing breathtaking panoramic scenes easily. By sweeping the camera in the desired direction, the Sweep Panorama mode lets you reach beyond the traditional wide-angle lens and capture stunning landscape images. With wide and ultra-wide settings and horizontal or vertical directions, Sweep Panorama mode can take up to 224-degree horizontal or 154-degree vertical shots.

For greater control of your Twilight Football image capture, the Alpha380 and Alpha330 are equipped with Quick AF Live View, a Sony-exclusive feature that enables users to benefit from the speed and accuracy of phase-detection autofocus, even when using the LCD screen to frame their subjects. This feature also allows for first time users to quickly capture and learn the effects of various settings on a DSLR camera to achieve that perfect photograph.

Capturing the fast paced action of Twilight Football with Sony’s Handycam range will produce great results with the in-built Optical Active SteadyShot Mode. Users can shoot smoother footage while walking or running as the camcorder corrects natural movement and shakes. With this feature, the Handycam camcorders include a 10 times wider camera shake correction angle than conventional Optical SteadyShot technology, which significantly reduces camera shake in footage, even when on the move.
