Kodak Pictures Go Mobile
Kodak has continued its push into the mobile phone market, after first aligning themselves with Sony Ericsson 12 months ago, more recently with Motorola and now with Exclaim who provide wireless web applications - allowing images taken on your mobile phone to be uploaded to 'Kodak Gallery' (www.kodakgallery.com).

It has been interesting to watch Kodak's movements as it's inevitable that compact digital cameras and mobile phones will merge as one eventually - my prediction is that within 5 years, there will be more mobile phones on the market with good digital photography options than just straight digital cameras. And this will see Kodak rise back to the top of the digital camera food chain if its competitors don't follow suit.

Press Release: EXCLAIM, a leading platform provider of innovative wireless and Web digital imaging applications has partnered with the KODAK Gallery to make uploading, downloading and sharing of photo and video, captured on mobile camera-phones, easy and instantaneous. KODAK Mobile Link is available beginning today on leading CDMA BREW Wireless carriers in the United States.

The program eliminates the need to attach photos to MMS messages for uploading. Instead, camera phone users simply press a button and their photos are automatically connected to KODAK Gallery (www.kodakgallery.com), the world’s number one photo service, where they can be easily shared, printed and stored. Users can also view all of their KODAK Gallery albums within the application. An automatic account creation feature enables users who do not have a KODAK Gallery account to automatically create one through their mobile phones.

“KODAK Mobile Link is an exciting photo-sharing option that helps people easily share their personal, every-day stories,” said David Westendorf, senior director, worldwide partnerships at KODAK Gallery. “Exclaim’s adaptable platform will help us reach more people in every corner of the world. We look forward to launching this application with Exclaim, and continuing to grow our own wireless business.”

KODAK Mobile Link is based on Exclaim’s award-wining Pictavision Platform, a digital imaging and media management application for mobile devices. The program instantly converts any BREW, Java, and Symbian-powered camera phone into a powerful wireless photo and video upload, messaging, printing and editing device compatible with major digital media Web sites.

Users can download a version of KODAK Mobile Link software directly from their camera phone through participating wireless carriers under the application download section. An affordable subscription model starts at $3.99 per month in the United States. Additional GSM Java wireless carriers are scheduled to support KODAK Mobile Link in the first half of 2007.

“This partnership combines KODAK Gallery’s stellar global reputation as the world’s number one online photo service with Exclaim’s leadership in camera phone photography application development,” said Jiren N. Parikh, vice president and general manager of wireless for Exclaim. “Adding our expertise in seamless wireless integration to the instantly recognizable KODAK Gallery name will transform how digital photographers around the world share their photos with friends and family.”

The Kodakgallery.com site provides consumers with a secure and easy way to view, store and share their photos with friends and family and get real KODAK prints of their pictures. The site also provides free editing and creative tools and specialty photo products. To date there have been more than 2 billion photos uploaded to KODAK Gallery.

About

From Glass Plates to Digital Images

With the slogan "you press the button, we do the rest," George Eastman in 1888 put the first simple camera into the hands of a world of consumers. In so doing, he made what had been a cumbersome and complicated process easy to use and accessible to nearly everyone.

Through the years, Kodak has led the way with an abundance of new products and processes that have made photography simpler, more useful and more enjoyable. Today, our work increasingly involves digital technology, combining the power and convenience of electronics with the quality of traditional photography to produce systems that bring levels of utility and fun to the taking, "making" and utilization of images.

What George Eastman began remains a goal of Eastman Kodak Company today, to provide convenience and quality to our customers so more and more people can experience the special wonders of photography and capture and re-live their more cherished moments.
