Leica M8 Firmware Update
Leica have today announced a new firmware updates for the Leica M8 digital camera. Six items have been addressed with more to come in April. The items covered are for the review mode, clipping function, colour rendition, auto review, text adjustments and other internal proceedures.

-- In Review mode the bar above the image is black and now includes displays for the shutter and ISO speeds as well as the image number.
-- The clipping function is now accessible directly in Auto Review mode, i.e. without having to press the INFO button first.
-- The color rendition with Adobe Camera Raw was improved.
-- If Auto Review and Histogram are both selected in the menu, this is now indicated as „Hold/Histogr.“.
-- The word „disabled“ has been replaced by „off“
-- Numerous internal procedures were improved and so-called bug-fixes implemented

Leica have also posted additional notes:
-- When updating from 1.09 to 1.092, the camera asks whether the user wishes to update to version 1.91 (meaning 1.092). This is not an error. After updating, the menu will display the correct figure „1.092“.
-- Leica recommend not to "downdate", e. g. from 1.092 to 1.09, since this may lead to occasional dropouts.
-- The planned adaptation for the use of the special UV/IR filters has not yet been included in the firmware 1.092. It will be included in the upcoming version 1.10, which we expect to make available by the middle of April 2007 on the Leica homepage.

About

Oskar Barnack's genius idea of creating the small format 35mm camera created a revolution in photography in 1925, paving the way for the birth of the Leica Legend. His diminutive, lightweight LEICA A offered a new, undreamed-of freedom in reportage and artistic photography. From that point to the present day, Leica has had a profound influence on our view of the world we live in.

What was started in 1914 with the Ur-Leica quickly turned into a lasting success. In 1932, around 90,000 cameras were already in use. By 1961, the number had increased to a million. Milestones in the development include the rangefinder cameras such as the legendary LEICA M3 in 1954 and the M6 in 1984. The R-System commenced in 1976 with the LEICA R3 - the first electronic Leica. In 1989, the first compact point-and-shoot model entered the market. 1998 also saw the launch of the first digital camera - the LEICA DIGILUX. Without exception, all developments are focused on the requirements of the user and are characterized by the highest quality, focus on essential functions, and comfortable user-friendly controls.
