Olympus Mju 7020 Digital Camera
olympus090728.jpgOlympus Imaging Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of its new Mju 7020 digital compact camera. Housing a powerful 7x optical zoom lens with 28mm wide angle shooting capability, and large 3.0 inch LCD screen, the Mju 7020 offers compact users more creative expression than ever before.

Packed with exciting new Magic Filters that turn everyday scenes into unique and images and an AF Tracking functionality that keeps moving subjects in focus, the new Olympus Mju 7020 elevates compact photography to an unprecedented level of inspiration and enjoyment.

Capturing the essence of Olympus’ powerful Art Filter technology developed specifically for the advanced E-30 and E-620 digital SLR cameras and new PEN camera, four new Magic Filters – Pop, Pinhole, Sketch and Fish-eye – turn daily scenes into compelling images.

The camera’s exciting new AF Tracking works to increase the ease of shooting fast moving subjects. By keeping moving subjects in crystal clear focus and providing optimum brightness, users can capture the ultimate shot simply by pressing the shutter button at any time during tracking.

Furthermore, Olympus’ renowned outstanding image quality is assured through its high-definition 12-megapixel CCD[2] and Olympus-original TruePic III image processing engine. The large 3.0-inch HyperCrystal II LCD monitor also allows for image previewing and playback and easy interaction with a selection of straightforward menus, playback image icons and 3D animation.

The Mju 7020 is due for release in Australia in September 2009 and will be available in dark grey, silver and red. Pricing is yet to be announced.

Key Features:

Slim, compact camera incorporating a 7x optical zoom and 28mm1 wide angle lens

Slim, compact, and highly portable, the Mju 7020 incorporates a powerful 7x optical zoom lens with 28mm1 wide-angle shooting capability and a large 3.0-inch HyperCrystal II LCD monitor. Its 7x wide zoom lens with 28mm wide-angle shooting makes it possible to accommodate several people within the frame even within a narrow indoor space as well as capturing dynamic images when shooting a group photo or a wide landscape. The 7x optical zoom can capture faraway subjects as if they were up close.

In addition, the Mju 7020 employs a Dual Shakeproof image stabilisation system.  Incorporating a CCD-shift image stabiliser based on the stabilising algorithm used with Olympus digital SLR cameras, and high-sensitivity shooting performance to eliminate the image blur that tends to occur due to camera shake or subject movement in telescopic shooting, the Mju 7020 can capture fast-moving children and pets or subjects in low-light indoors.

The high-definition 12-megapixel CCD2 together with the Olympus-original TruePic III image processing engine ensure high-quality shots that look as true to life as images seen with the naked eye. Even pale colours are reproduced naturally.

New Magic Filters for added creativity

Specially designed to expand the potential of digital photography, four new Magic Filters exploit traditional image processing techniques to turn scenes of everyday life into extraordinary images that are distinctive and compelling. Simple to operate, the Magic Filters make it easy to apply a colour tone or ambience to an image that is dramatically different from what is actually visible through the naked eye.

A total of four magic filter effects are available:

    * Pop – Enhances colours to turn familiar landscapes into a more vivid, colourful world
    * Pin Hole – Reproduces the peripheral vignetting and unique colour tones of photos taken with a toy camera
    * Sketch – Transforms the true-to-life image into a line drawing
    * Fish-Eye – Reproduces the dramatic perspective captured with a fish-eye lens

These filter effects can be previewed on the LCD screen as well as compared simultaneously using the “Compare Shot” function.

New AF Tracking makes it easier to capture the moment

Shooting previously difficult scenes has been made much easier with the Mju 7020. Pictures of fast-moving subjects can now be tracked automatically ensuring optimum focus and exposure simply by pressing the shutter button at any time. Even when a subject disappears from the framing area the camera resumes tracking when the subject returns inside the frame. AF tracking is also convenient in framing when users want to identify the optimum shooting angle while keeping the subject focused.

About Olympus

In Greek mythology, Mt.Olympus is the home of the twelve supreme gods and goddesses. Olympus was named after this mountain to reflect its strong aspiration to create high quality, world famous products.

"Olympus" has been used as a trademark since the time of Takachiho Seisakusho, the predecessor of Olympus Corporation.

In Japanese mythology, it is said that eight million gods and goddesses live in Takamagahara, the peak of Mt.Takachiho. The name "Olympus" was selected as the trademark because Mt.Olympus, like Mt.Takachiho, was the home of gods and goddesses. This trademark is also imbued with the aspiration of Olympus to illuminate the world with its optical devices, just like Takamagahara brought light to the world.

Takachiho Seisakusho was renamed Takachiho Optical Co., Ltd. in 1942 when optical products became the mainstay of the company. In 1947, the name was changed again to Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. in an attempt to enhance its corporate image.

And in 2003, the company made a fresh start as Olympus Corporation, to show its willingness to establish a dynamic corporate brand by unifying the corporate name and the well-known brand.

In recent years, Olympus Corporation has focused on "Opto-Digital Technology" as its core competence, technological strengths that competitors cannot easily imitate, to maximize corporate value and to become one of the top optical instrument manufactures.
