Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 Camera

Combining outstanding photographic quality with top smartphone functionality.

Panasonic has announced the Australian launch of the LUMIX DMC-CM1, combining the exceptional photographic quality of a premium camera with a large 1-inch image sensor, and cutting-edge smartphone functionality. The unique CM1 is the decisive answer to the crucial question of camera vs. smartphone: "Do I capture this moment with my camera or is my smartphone sufficient?"

The device is a high quality digital camera and a state-of-the-art smartphone in one. It is unique in that despite a stylish slim profile that fits neatly into a pocket, the device houses a 1-inch 20 Megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor and LEICA DC ELMARIT lens, allowing it to produce high quality images that rival those of a bulky DSLR. The integrated lens contributes to exceptional picture quality with a wide-angle 28mm focal length and an aperture of f/2.8, providing excellent resolution and minimal distortion.

Continuing Panasonic’s innovation in 4K, the CM1 captures high resolution 4K video, as well as stunning still images with 4K Photo modes.

Doug Campbell, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Australia, said: “The CM1 produces crisp, highly dynamic images while also meeting the highest demands of smartphone functionality.”

“It uses the same image sensor that is responsible for excellent image quality in the LUMIX DMC-FZ1000. Because of the sensor size, it offers outstanding low light performance with minimum noise levels – even at high ISO.”

The CM1 is equipped with its own dedicated imaging processor, ensuring faster response times for photography. Complementing the CM1’s outstanding photographic capabilities, the smartphone functionality also meets the highest demands with a powerful Qualcomm 2.3 GHz quad-core processor, a 4.7-inch full HD-display and the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

The LUMIX DMC-CM1 is priced at RRP$1,399 and is available from mid-July.

Creative freedom

The ring on the lens barrel allows control over aperture, shutter speed, ISO settings, white balance, exposure compensation and focus. Precision focusing is available with MF assist or Focus Peaking function while viewing the live image, and a 4.7-inch large 6220K-dot ultra-high resolution rear monitor offers stunning high visibility during both recording and playing back images. To further enhance creative freedom, the CM1 features RAW image recording for professional photographers.

For easy operability, there are a range of convenient screen displays including an integrated digital spirit level, a histogram and a Quick menu for fast access to the main settings.

The CM1 also offers automatic features for great results. These include a lightning-fast autofocus as well as scene modes and the iA function (Intelligent Auto) that produces perfect pictures, even for beginners.

The CM1 has a dedicated shutter button as well as a slider that facilitates instant switching between camera and smartphone.

Changing photography with 4K Photo

Users will never miss a moment, with the CM1 ready even before they are to capture split-second shots such as lightning or their child’s first steps.

The CM1 is equipped with two special applications - “4K Pre-Burst” and “4K Photo”. “4K Pre-Burst” captures 1 ½ seconds of action both before and after the shutter release, providing a total of 45 shots for the photographer to choose from. Now you’ll always be able to capture that fleeting photo opportunity at the decisive moment.

4K Photo mode optimises settings such as shutter speed for sharp still images at 15 frames per second. Capturing high resolution still images at 3328x2496 (4:3), allows you to produce stunning prints at up to A3 size.

Smartphone functionality

The 1,920 x 1,080 high resolution and bright 4.7-inch display allow users to review their images in sharp detail as well as easily view Full HD movies. The 16 GB internal memory can be expanded to up to 128 GB with an optional Micro SDXC card.

The fusion of the superb camera and high-performance phone allows users to share great images straight away. A fast internet connection is assured via LTE (Long Term Evolution) capability, and standard wireless connections such as Bluetooth, WiFi and NFC are available as well.

The smart, stylish CM1 offers an impressive overall package that meets high photographic standards as well as the requirements of a top-class smartphone.
