Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300 Digital Camera
panasonic20150721aa.jpgLUMIX DMC-FZ300: Ultimate high speed compact camera moves to the next level.
Creative high-speed compact now offers the latest technologies for outstanding image quality and usability.

Panasonic has announced the LUMIX DMC-FZ300, the latest in its FZ Series of high speed compact cameras.

Its predecessor, the DMC-FZ200, was acclaimed by photographers for its LEICA lens, constant F2.8 aperture and 24x zoom. The DMC-FZ300 takes this performance to the next level with the latest LUMIX technologies including 4K video and 4K Photo burst shooting; powerful five-axis stabilisation to support zooming; excellent usability with a high-resolution viewfinder and free-angle touchscreen; fast, responsive autofocus with modes including Panasonic’s Depth from Defocus (DFD) and low-light autofocus; plus a splash and dust-proof body.

Doug Campbell, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic, said: “The DMC-FZ300 is ideal for the customer who is looking for the ease of a compact but appreciates photography and the importance of having the very best lens. This long zoom, fast aperture camera offers them LUMIX technology to deliver superior control and creativity, for stunning photographic results.”

The camera’s high-quality LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens, constant F2.8 aperture (35mm camera equivalent 25-600mm) and powerful 24x optical zoom deliver spur of the moment shots from distant to close-range subjects with excellent image quality. Vital when shooting at high zoom, 5-Axis HYBRID O.I.S. + (Optical Image Stabiliser Plus)i, compensates for hand-shake in virtually any direction.

With the newly-added 4K video and 4K Photo burst shooting, the DMC-FZ300’s capabilities are further broadened. In 4K Pre-burst, the camera uses buffering to capture one second before and after the shutter is pressed, at 30 frames per second. The user can then select from 60 frames to find the precise moment they are looking for.

Photographers will also appreciate the ease and versatility of the newly-upgraded 1,440K-dot OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) LVF (Live View Finder). It boasts 0.7x magnification and 10,000:1 high contrast for superior colour reproduction. The 3-inch free-angle 1,040K-dot touch monitor allows the user to easily set focus or enlarge the target point with their fingertips.

The DMC-FZ300 is very fast and accurate, integrating Light Speed AF with DFD technologyii which shortens the time to acquire focus. In the Low Light AF mode, the auto-focus works in -3EV lighting, which is as dark as a moonlit sky.

Doug Campbell added: “A compact camera this powerful and versatile is going to be popular for field photography. Panasonic supports this with a splash and dust-proof rugged design, as well as convenient Wi-Fi that makes it easy to control the camera remotely with your smartphone and provides instant image sharing.”

The DMC-FZ300 is RRP $899 and will be available in Australia in September from photographic specialists and consumer electronics retailers.

Key Features

Stunning image quality with LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT 25mm ultra wide-angle lens

For the LEICA lens to be able to achieve full range F2.8 with a shallow depth of field, high precision correction performance against distortion is indispensable. The advanced and compact lens is comprised of 14 elements in 11 groups, including 3 ED lenses and 5 aspherical lenses with 9 aspherical surfaces. Nano Surface Coating technology dramatically reduces reflection and ensures ultra-clear images with a dramatic reduction of ghosts and flare.

Supporting 24x zoom shooting, new Hybrid O.I.S. + (Optical Image Stabiliser) provides five- axis correction to effectively suppress hand-shake vibration and capture clear, sharp images from wide to tele.

The combination of the 12.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS Sensor and Venus Engine achieves clear image rendering with minimum noise at max ISO6400, and natural, beautiful picture quality.

Introducing 4K video and 4K Photo capability

The DMC-FZ300 records stunningly smooth, high-resolution 4K video (3840 x 2160, 25p and 24p, 100Mbps) at four times the resolution of full-HD. The result is crystal-clear footage that captures the most intricate details.

4K Photo mode provides a natural still photography experience and allows the user to optimise settings such as shutter speed for sharp still images at 30 frames per second. Capturing high resolution still images at 3328x2496 (4:3) makes it possible to produce stunning prints at up to A3 size.

There are three ways to take advantage of 4K Photo mode:

•    4K Pre-burst mode.

In this mode the camera captures 30 frames per second before and after the shutter is released, a total of 60 shots. The DMC-FZ300 is ready before you are to capture unrepeatable split-second moments such as lightning or your child’s first steps.

•    4K Burst mode.

This operates like a traditional burst mode, but will capture 30 frames per second as long as the shutter is held down, for up to 29 minutes and 30 seconds. This is great for predictable action sequences that last for more than a few seconds – such as sports where you capture the player, the goal and the team reaction.

•    4K Burst start/stop.

Press the shutter once to start burst shooting and press it again to stop. This is useful when you are going to be waiting for longer and don’t know exactly when the action is going to happen, for example wildlife shots when you are expecting a bird to return to its nest.

After capturing 4K footage, simply scroll through 30 frames per second via the ‘carousel’ on the touch screen. It’s quick and intuitive to select that perfect image. Now, no matter how fleeting the moment, you’ll never miss a shot.

Rugged design and improved ergonomics

To withstand the rigors of demanding field use, the DMC-FZ300 has a rugged splash and dustproof design that makes it perfect to take on your next adventure, whether it is on safari or to the rainforest.

The DMC-FZ300’s 1,440K-dot OLED LVF has outstanding viewability, suppressing both blown highlights and blocked shadows. OLED technology allows the LVF to achieve a high speed response with minimum time lag while enhancing the resolution. The image output between the LVF and the rear monitor is switched automatically via the Eye Sensor on the LVF. The 1,040K-dot 3-inch free-angle rear touch monitor offers increased resolution and improved colour reproduction, so it’s easy to view even in bright outdoors situations. Both LVF and monitor offer approximately 100% field of view.

To further enhance controllability, the DMC-FZ300 now has a side dial in addition to the rear dial. Major settings such as the aperture and shutter speed can be directly adjusted using either dial. There are four physical and five on screen programmable function buttons to give users quick access to their favourite controls.

High speed response and stunning AF performance

The camera integrates Light Speed AF with DFD (Depth From Defocus) technologyiv which shortens the time to acquire focus. As a result, it achieves high speed AF of approximately 0.09 secv to capture fleeting photo opportunities. Burst shooting is available at 12 fps (AFS) / 6 fps (AFC) to capture fast moving subjects. The DMC-FZ300 is capable of releasing the mechanical shutter at max.1/4000 sec (at 25mm wide end) and 1/3200 sec (at 600mm tele end), and at 1/16000 with electronic shutter, which reduces washouts even under strong sunlight. The camera has a quick start-up of approximately 0.88 sec.

For precise focusing, extensive AF functions are available. The Full Area AF allows users to set focus on any part of the approximately 100% field of view. The Focus Detect Area offers 49 points for more flexible composition, and the Custom Multi AF mode allows users to freely select blocks to focus out of the 49 focusing areas. The 1-area AF can be seamlessly magnified in both manual focus and auto focus mode. The Pinpoint AF helps users focus on a tiny area by magnifying it with a frame-in-frame window. In the Low Light AF mode, the auto-focus works in -3EV lighting, which is as dark as a moonlit sky with no other light source.

For more practical control over focusing, the DMC-FZ300 incorporates a Focus Peaking function that shows the focus position in MF and AF+MF modes, enabling users to see the peaking of focus while monitoring the subject in live view. Other useful functions include Face Recognition AF, Eye Detection AF, Eye Sensor AF and Tracking AF.

Other features

•    The camera integrates 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology to offer a more flexible shooting experience and instant image sharing with easy operation. Using the Panasonic Image App, remote shooting is available using a smartphone or tablet, and images and video can be quickly uploaded or emailed.
