| Epson P-6000 & P-7000 Multimedia Storage Viewer |
Epson has released the next generation of its multimedia storage viewers for professional and semi-professional photographers, the Epson P-6000 Multimedia Storage Viewer and Epson P-7000 Multimedia Storage Viewer, both with an enhanced Photo Fine Premia 4 inch LCD screen displaying approximately 16.7 million colours and supporting up to 94% of the Adobe RGB colour space.Epson’s Photo Fine Premia LCD screen (640 x 480 pixels VGA) features Epson’s innovative four colour filter - red, blue, yellow-green, and emerald green - to deliver greater colour accuracy and unparalleled colour and brightness - far better than a conventional LCD screen. The enhanced Photo Fine Premia screen displays images at a higher pixel density for smoother gradations and better colour transitions, revealing subtle details with unsurpassed clarity and, using advanced LCD technologies, enables clear viewing under different lighting conditions and from different angles. As with the previous multimedia storage viewer models, the P-6000 and P-7000 support both JPEG and the popular RAW image format from manufacturers such as Nikon, Canon, Epson, Konica Minolta, Pentax, Olympus, Fujifilm, Sony, and Adobe. Users can view their image in full screen, zoom and rotate, or view the Exif file along with the image histogram and rating information. Exif information may include the camera name, date of shot, pixel size, focal length, F stop number, shutter speed, exposure adjustment, flash setting, metering mode, white balance, ISO speed and colour space. Epson is continuously updating support for other RAW formats and users can get further information from the Epson Australia website. (http://www.epson.com.au/news/technologynews/rawsupport.html) The P-6000 and P-7000 also detect ICC colour spaces from both Exif and supported file formats allowing for more accurate display of the image’s colours. Professional photographers can now edit RAW and JPEG files on the P-6000 and P-7000 without having to connect the viewer to a PC. Basic editing includes choosing preset adjustments such as: Standard – for automatic brightness and contrast adjustments; People – enhances skin tones: Landscape – enhances the colours of the sky and greenery; Night scene – adjusts the contrast ; Faithful – brightness and tone from the actual scene are preserved with as much fidelity as possible; and Monochrome – converts the image to black and white. For the more advanced user editing tools include white balance adjustment (for RAW files only), exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, colour balance, monochrome filter, noise reduction and sharpness. The P-6000 and P-7000 can also be used to watch movies on the Photo Fine Premia LCD screen or listen to music. Supported file formats include MPEG4, MOV and .avi for movies, and for music MP3, MPEG4-AAC. The P-6000 and P-7000 can also be run as a sub monitor via a USB connection to a laptop or PC/Mac, allowing users to edit the image on the computer and view the result on the Epson viewer’s superior quality Photo Fine Premia LCD to check the accuracy of colours. Transfer from memory cards to the P-6000 (80GB hard drive) or P-7000 (160GB hard drive) is quick and easy, with users able to choose between copying entire memory cards in one action or, with the new differential backup option, choose to transfer only new or changed files. Transfer speed has been improved substantially, reducing battery use and increasing usable viewing time. From 1GB SD cards the P-6000 and P-7000 are 28% faster than previous models and from 1GB CF cards the P-6000 and P-7000 are 35% faster than previous models. The card slots accept CF (type I/II 3.3 only), SD, SDHC, Micro drive, Multimedia and Multimedia Plus cards. And with a CF card adapter/USB memory card reader the P-6000 and P-7000 support Memory Stick, Smart Media and xD cards. The improved Print Wizard allows users to customise their Jpeg or supported RAW image on the viewer’s screen before sending directly to a printer – without the need to connect to a PC/ Mac. Customising features include retouching, cropping, changing the layout by adding a frame, changing background colour or the image position, and adding a watermark that allows photographers to mark their images with a background logo identifying it as their work. Both viewers come standard with a rechargeable lithium battery that enables the user to watch up to 3.3 hours of movies, listen to 5.9 hours of music, or complete approximately 75 full backups from a CF 1 GB card*. The Epson P-6000 Multimedia Storage Viewer is available through consumer electronics and photographic retail stores at an RRP of $899, while the Epson P-7000 Multimedia Storage Viewer is available through Authorised Epson Pro Graphics dealers at an RRP of $999.
