Epson Photojournalism Award

Epson is providing support for high quality photojournalism in Australia as sponsor of the Walkley Awards photography category for Daily life/feature photography.

“Epson’s strength is high quality reproduction in print of photographs, fine art and graphic designs, so it is natural for Epson to sponsor the award for the best photograph in the Daily life/feature photography category in the Walkleys, Australia’s highest awards for journalists and media photographers,” Epson’s Business Manager Pro Graphics, Craig Heckenberg, said.

“We know that more than 70% of the professional photographers in Australia, including many media photographers, choose Epson when printing photographs” Mr Craig Heckenberg, said.

Mr Heckenberg congratulated the 2006 Walkley Daily life/feature photography winner, Angela Wylie, for her outstanding image. Angela’s photograph, titled ‘Windy Oaks Day’, was published in the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. It can be viewed here: www.walkleys.com/winners/2006/winners/wylie.html

Mr Heckenberg said Epson will continue to support excellence in Australian photography through sponsorships such as the Walkley Awards.

The Walkleys Daily life/feature photography category includes images submitted for feature or magazine purposes. The judges look for human-interest photos displaying creativity, originality and technical photographic excellence.

Since starting her career as a darkroom assistant in 1989, Angela Wylie has covered major news assignments including the Solomon Islands, asylum seekers on Nauru and Manus Island, logging and mining in Papua New Guinea, the Childers backpacker tragedy and the aftermath of the 2005 tsunami in Banda Aceh.
